A federal jury in Florida has awarded $7.1 million in damages to three Army Veterans, finding that 3M Co. and subsidiary Aearo Technologies LLC failed to warn about design flaws in earplugs widely sold to the U.S. Military that ultimately caused hearing loss.

A United States Army veteran claims he used defective earplugs made by 3M Co. and its subsidiary Aearo Technologies LLC was awarded $1.05 million in damages for his hearing loss and tinnitus, a federal jury in Florida decided.
According to litigation, during initial testing of the earplugs, Aearo Technologies LLC (subsidiary of 3M) had determined that the standard fit for the earplugs would not pass the US Government's standards for military grade earplugs. So they instructed testers to manipulate the earplug and fold the flanges out to gain a higher testing score.
Aero knew of the issue, but failed to disclose this information to soldiers, thus causing hearing problems for numerous veterans.
